Quincy & Big Brothers Big Sisters Put Action In Jackson

Superheroes Are Amongst Us All! Share a Little Time. Make a Big Difference. That's the motto at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County. Volunteer mentors are “Superheroes” all year long and Quincy Resource Group is proud to sponsor a horse and carriage ride in the Action in Jackson parade on Sunday, June 8th. Real heroes, Roger & Judy Vavra, Big Brothers Big Sisters 2007 Big Couple of the Year, and their Little Brother, Nick will ride in the parade.

Roger & Judy have been matched with Nick, who is 16, for about a year and a half. In addition to spending time with and mentoring Nick, Roger and Judy have opened their home to other matches and hosted several activities on their property in the country. Even though their community match is still “young,” they have all gained so much and look forward to the coming years together.

Mentoring is about sharing a little time while making a big difference. Play a cardgame. Share some laughs. Make a difference in just an hour a week over lunch or a couple hours a month while playing in the park. Mentoring is simple, it’s fun, you get to be a kid again yourself. Join the many volunteers who say, “I get back so much more than I give.”  Weekly or bi-monthly mentoring opportunities exist.
